As you know, I was left in a sticky situation just before we went on holiday due to a fall out with my decorator. Fortunately my Dad is a dab hand at DIY so he stepped in to help me out!
In the past, when I was really struggling with my mental health, I had been reluctant to have my Dad help at my house because he didn’t know the extent of my illness. Now, he is aware of everything that I have been through and he has been incredibly supportive. As a result our relationship is better than it ever has been and I am delighted to have his help.
Like me, my Dad is a bit of a perfectionist so his decorating is of an excellent standard. In the week since our return from holiday we have sanded the newly plastered walls, given the walls their first coat of paint and sanded the floorboards – I couldn’t be happier with the results!
We were devastated when we found out about the dry rot and the damage it had caused but we can now look at it more positively because our kitchen is going to look better than ever by the time we’ve finished with it!
I am firm believer that things happen for a reason and losing my decorator has turned out to be a massive positive. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with my Dad and I am so proud of what we have achieved together. He has worked like a trooper and I sometimes forget that he is 69 years old!
I want to say a massive thank you to him for not only working so hard to get our house so beautifully decorated but for being so supportive and understanding! He stepped in to help without a hesitation and I am so grateful for everything he has done.
I am pleased to say that on Tuesday night I returned to work and although it has been a bit of a shock to the system it feels good be back! Things are slowly starting to get back to normal and before long the dry rot saga will be nothing but a distant memory!
