Adrenaline Rush Obstacle Course Conquered!

I did it! I completed the Adrenaline Rush 10k Obstacle Course yesterday without disgracing myself and with a little help from friends and work colleagues!  To say it was very challenging is an understatement.  Imagine a 10k cross country course with rocky paths that rise steeply then back down again, put 26 obstacles into the mix and there you have it!  A 10k run is bad enough when you are not particularly fit but combined with obstacles, it is absolutely knackering and you have to dig deep mentally!

My friends and I worked as a team which meant we stayed together until every one of us completed each obstacle, encouraging each other and sometimes helping each other by either pushing or pulling someone over an obstacle!  It is really difficult to describe the obstacles we had to overcome but they included clambering over high walls, navigating your way through a kind of net, running through electrified ropes, walking a narrow beam and, of course, the dreaded monkey bars!  I was really worried that I wouldn’t be able to do some of the challenges but the only one I failed on was, you guessed it, the monkey bars, although I did manage the grand total of 3!  There was one particular obstacle that ironically was called Everest!  It was a gigantic version of a child’s inflatable slide.  You had to climb up steps at the side which, because of the nature of the material it was made from, were very unstable and if you were unlucky enough to lose your balance, you would have taken out the 6 or 7 people behind you!  Fortunately I got to the top unscathed but when you got there it seemed a very long way down.  The only thing for it was to close your eyes, jump down on to the slide and hope for the best!

The measured course was 5k however, like idiots, we had opted to do the 10k!  This meant that once we had completed it the first time, we had to do the same thing all over again!  I still can’t make up my mind whether that was a good thing in that we knew what to expect, or a bad thing in that we knew what was waiting for us!  Anyway, we finished the course in a little over 2 hours which was pretty good going considering the advertising blurb says the course is expected to take no more than 4 hours!

I would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to all the team as I couldn’t have done it without their help and support!  You were all amazing!  We had such a brilliant time that we all agreed we are going to do it again next year, so bring it on!

Thank you also to those of you who donated to OTR in response to my appeal and in support of yesterday’s challenge.  You can donate retrospectively should you wish to.
